Demos vs. Kratia
According to “Mass and Power” from Elias Canetti, the term “slogan” comes of two celtic words: sluagh ( “army of the deads”) and ghairm (meaning “to shout” or “call”) that is to say , the voice of deads. Therefore, the combat shouts addressed to our contemporary masses derive from those pronounced by the army of the deads: during the polls the right to speak is given to the army of the deads. The same army that cried out against every single type of authority.
Within the context of the 2008 General Elections took place a counter-campaign based on the slogan “ Demos Vs Cracia”. The aforementionned campaign put forward the concepts of the critical civil society and those of the political society, confronting the conscience of “Demos”, people, with “kratia”, power.
